Happy 'Take a Hike Day' everyone!

'Take a Hike Day' was established by the American Hiking Society to encourage people to get out for a hike, explore the wild and promote overall fitness.

The day is now celebrated around the world by people taking a hike on the actual 'Take a Hike Day' or at the very least, planning their next hike.

So, what on earth are we waiting for then? Let me introduce to you three of my favourite hikes to do in the United Arab Emirates.

It should be pointed out first that the United Arab Emirates is a wonderland for hikes. With vast desert away from the urban hubs of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and a huge chunk of the Hajar Mountains passing through the north and east of the country, the hiking opportunities are plentiful.

Each of them have their own unique moments of brilliance. The Al Rabi Mountain summit for instance is a joy, the views from the trails at Wadi Shawka are breathtaking and to reach the UAE's highest public point... well, I can think of worse things to do in a day.

Each of the following hikes suit anyone with just a base level of fitness, but at the same time offer a good amount of challenges and will have you working hard in places.

It's all worth it though...

1. Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest public point, Ras Al Khaimah

This is where you can hike to the highest public point in the UAE, be greeted with amazing views and a very good start and finish location with all the facilities you could wish for.

2. Wadi Shawka, Ras Al Khaimah

On this hike you don't really reach any sort of summit or end goal, it's just a really good loop with epic views of the Hajar Mountains and a brilliant long staircase to get you going!

3. Al Rabi Mountain, Khor Fakkan, Sharjah

This hike I think provides one of the best summit's in the UAE. After a challenging but doable hike to the summit, you are greeted with the stunning setting of looking down on the UAE city of Khor Fakkan and the Gulf of Oman.

Happy hiking to you, remember to stay safe when hiking in the UAE and plan properly. All the info you need for these hikes can be found in the READ MORE sections.
