February 25, 2021 // My top 3 weekend adventure picks // United Arab Emirates

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Looking for a great UAE weekend adventure to do? Read and watch below for something to suit you...

In this week's adventure picks within the United Arab Emirates we hike to the stunning lower trails of Jebel Jais, explore the wonderful kayaking location available in Hatta and cycle an old camel racing track in Dubai.

1. Hiking the lower trails of Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah

The lower trails of Jebel Jais are incredible. The wonderful Laura, otherwise known as Hike_UAE and I tackled the Samar Trail for this hiking adventure, you'll find yourself completely immersed in the Hajar Mountain landscape surrounding you.

The Samar Trail is a 6km loop, in a clockwise direction. The trail starts not long after you pass the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp on the Jebel Jais mountain road and there is an unmarked area to park on the left.

Full details can be found in the above video.

The hike will take on average around 3-4 hours, and is mostly undulating tracks through the mountains. There are a couple of consistent gradual inclines to the highest points on the hike, but nothing too steep!

This is a hike well worth doing in the UAE.

2. Hatta is a kayaking paradise

Hatta is a mountain town on the UAE border with Oman. In fact, Hatta used to be in Oman before it came under UAE territory.

Thanks to the Hatta Dam, built in the 1990's, the resulting body of water nestled into the Hatta Mountains creates a stunning location to explore by kayak.

You don't need to book, and can pay by cash or card on arrival before you head out on the water. Even if you are not a huge kayaker, just gently floating around the lake is a great way to soak up the mountain scenery.

3. The Nad Al Sheba Cycle loop in Dubai is the perfect cycling location

I've added a cycle route to this week's top 3 adventure picks because the annual UAE Tour is currently happening across the country.

Cycling is a huge hobby sport in the UAE and there are some incredible facilities around.

Find out more here.

The Nad Al Sheba Cycle Loop is an ex camel racing track, now converted into a brilliant cycling loop with great facilities including bike rental.

You also get excellent views of Downtown Dubai on this loop, with the likes of the Burj Khalifa towering above you.

I hope you find an adventure for your weekend above, if not don't forget to scroll through my Blog here to find other amazing adventures in the United Arab Emirates.
