February 10, 2021 // My top 3 weekend adventure picks // United Arab Emirates

Looking for a great UAE weekend adventure to do? Read and watch below for something to suit you...

In this week's top adventure picks for the United Arab Emirates, we go hiking in a landscape similar to Mars, walk around Dubai's origins and kayak a natural phenomenon in Abu Dhabi.

1. 5 reasons to hike Fossil Rock, Sharjah

I've picked this hike this weekend to celebrate the UAE's success in reaching the orbit of Mars with the Hope Probe mission. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Hiking Fossil Rock in the Emirate of Sharjah is a brilliant way to explore the UAE's incredible desert landscapes, a landscape not too dissimilar to that of Mars!

The hike is a load of fun and if you time it so you reach the high ground for sunset, you will witness a stunning setting as the sun dips below the horizon with miles of rolling sand dunes in the foreground.

Climbing the steep soft sand is challenging, but its doable with plenty of rests. You'll see what I mean in the video! And it is worth it, as this area of the UAE is a real insight into the history of this area, from when it was actually the seabed to when the first movement of anatomically modern human beings (humans as we know them these days) reached the area.

2. Discover Dubai's origins with this Dubai Creek walking loop

Okay, perhaps not the most exhilarating adventure but still equally as rewarding as you spend time around Dubai Creek and wonder the old souks.

Dubai Creek is fundamental to Dubai's growth and in fact if this little inlet of water didn't exist, Dubai would most likely not exist in the way we know it today.

It played a fundamental role in Dubai developing a commercial hub for itself and even though that was on a small scale, with fishing and pearl diving the biggest industries, it paved the way for the metropolis we now know!

This area is normally hugely busy, but with many not venturing out at the moment, you will find that you can walk around fairly freely and remain socially distanced from others.

3. Kayaking the Eastern Mangroves of Abu Dhabi

I love being on the water but to do it in the shadows of a city landscape like Abu Dhabi in the middle of a natural phenomenon is extra special.

The Abu Dhabi mangrove parks are essential in the city's fight against global warming and act as a perfect natural defence to rising sea levels.

It is amazing to take yourself out of the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the peace and tranquility of the eastern mangroves by kayak with the city sounds forgotten about and only the sound of your kayak to distract you from complete peacefulness.

If you are looking for a relaxing respite from the world this weekend, this should be on your list!
